Chankanai church is situated along the Jaffna –Manipay – Karainagar highway near Chankanai town. It is one of the colonial period evidences. Earlier, It was a church, built by Portuguese in 1641 and it was converted and re-decorated in the 17th century. The walls of the fort currently in dilapidated condition stand testimony to the Dutch architectural skills. It was declared as Archeological monument.
